Executive Committee Members

Chair Person: Sunita Chand

Sunita Chand is permanent resident of Gurans Rural Municipality-5, Goganpani, Dailekh district of Karnali province Nepal. Born and raised in an agrarian rural family, seen and faced so
many difficulties, discrimination, violence, income disparities, health and educational problems. These zigzag circumstances tried to hold her within there, but she decided to go against them. And, she started to raise voice against discrimination, violence. This is her third tenure as the chairperson of Women Empowerment Action Forum (WEAF), Nepal, Dailekh. From its establishment in 1999 WEAF Nepal was working against the social discrimination present in the society, especially those discriminations against women and girls. Now, institution is working not only for women, also for marginalized, disadvantaged, disaster prone and socially affected people.
Working area/location of our institution is Dailekh district, especially Gurans rural municipality. She led the institution to work for beneficiaries and their economic, social, educational and political development through different income generating activities, training,
campaigns, events, seminars, and awareness programs. We are strongly criticizing other serious issues of our society like violence against women, rape, suicide, single women, uterine prolapsed women, untouchability and chhaupadi system from previous decades. She witnessed these within our society and around me and decided to raise voice against such unsocial activities and promoted health services for women, children, pregnant and delivery women. An empowered human resource is pivotal for the development of nation. So, they focus on developing capable and empowered human resource through campaign, training, and awareness programs. COVID-19 pandemic seriously hit the economic sector of many countries. In this period income generating activities were created for jobless and job lost workers. Agricultural and livestock rearing activities along with other lie learning trainings were conducted in different parts of the Dailekh district.
It’s over 2 decade since she initiated social activities. Chand and her institution are able to reduce discrimination and violence in some level. To achieve standard of living, monetary earning is necessary. Easiest way of earning in village is through agricultural and livestock rearing activities. Soil in these areas is best suited for vegetable, fruit, fodder, and cereal production. With use of soils fertility, villagers can increase productivity, ultimately increase their income. Year round fodder production provides tremendous opportunity for livestock enterprises. High valued crops, spices; condiments were promoted in the area.
Last but not the least; we want to develo the institution as a believable shelter place for women and disadvantaged people of the society. Decision making ability and managerial abilities of people were improved. Sense of cooperation was established and people mobilize their funds through cooperatives. We work in coordination with local, provincial and federal government. In any point, if our and governments aims coincide, we try to work together for the betterment of the people, society, and the nation.
